<image:caption>the innocence project - 2013-2014 pyrography, laser prints, on 22 sheets of Thai mulberry paper each sheet 35” x 27” The innocence project is a visual translation of the lost time that wrongly incarcerated individuals have spent in U.S. prisons on death row since 1973. The piece consists of 28 panels, each comprised of 4 sheets of paper, layered and stitched together. A grid of rectangles has been burned through the top two layers of paper. Each rectangle represents one week of incarceration - a total of 100,000+ weeks served by 156 inmates. QR codes when scanned with an app on a smart phone reveal the name of each individual, the dates of his or her incarceration and eventual exoneration.</image:caption>

<image:caption>There's No Vaccine for Gun Violence in America - 2021-22 Waxed Nepalese paper, thread, ink drawings on gampi 60" x 118" Gun violence in America has been steadily increasing to epidemic levels in America over the past few decades. Any efforts to contain this scourge are “shot down” by the gun lobby. When COVID began killing Americans at a horrifying pace over three years ago, a vaccine was developed in record time. There's No Vaccine for Gun Violence in America portrays the steady increase in gun deaths from 1990 thru 2026 (black stitched x’s represent suicides, red stitched crosshairs homicides). The variegated stitching after 2022 on the timeline depicts statistically based estimates of future yearly increases. Magnified COVID “cells” are incorporated as of 2020, their decreasing density reflecting the numbers of deaths over time. The sad truth is that money and power are valued more than human lives in America.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Contact and Parallel Currents installation view. After working together via zoom on several projects throughout the COVID pandemic, Wisconsin-based book artist and master printer Erin McAdams and I were challenged to create a piece for inclusion in a show entitled “Wind Water Paper” to be exhibited in August 2022. Using water as a vehicle – snow from Wisconsin and seawater from Hawaii – we explored the idea of contact: contact between water and paper, ink and water, press and plate, the two of us in our respective environments, and the two of us in contact with each other. Relying on emerging technology in combination with traditional printmaking techniques, we navigated how our isolation and environment impacted our collaborative creativity.</image:caption>

Their cries for help are obscured by a layer of beeswax to represent how their pleas become mere background noise to the shouts of Second Amendment advocates and deep pockets of the arms manufacturers. “shattered" bullet casings representing the number of children killed in school shootings since 2000 are strewn below amidst empty casings representing bullets that did not find their targets.</image:caption>
